So thankful.
2021 has been a rotten year in the fight for protecting trans kids, and it seems like there are new challenges around every corner. But today, I’m determined to focus on all the good things that have come from my journey this year. I have so much to be grateful for:
I’m thankful for my family, who are so supportive of my advocacy work. I’m super lucky that my husband and one of my kiddos got to share some my experiences in Austin.
I’m thankful for all the transgender adults I met at the Capitol. I’m humbled to be in their miraculous and extraordinary presence. What a treat to know them.
I’m thankful for all the other parents of transgender kids I met this year. Being able to share experiences with people who get it is so important.
I’m thankful for all the allies who fought so hard this year to protect trans kids and who continue to do that work every day. I’m grateful that I learned more about the work of the many advocacy organizations who burned the candle at both ends to get through session after session after session after session.
And most importantly, I’m thankful for transgender kids. Every day, I marvel that trans children know who they are, even if they don’t have the words yet. Trans kids are living proof of the beauty and diversity of creation. They are marvelous and stunning beings who inspire me with their wisdom – many beyond their years - and their very existence. My own transgender kids show me that I can be whom I’m meant to be, even if the whole world’s not ready for me yet.
So many lucky stars. So thankful.
