Find the joy.
Who needs some joy this week?
I sure do.
It’s a mess down here in Texas, what with our Governor and Attorney General attacking trans kids (but hey, what’s new?).
I’m choosing to focus on joy right now and think about what is miraculous and amazing about my kids.
When my twins were babies, there were some long days and sleepless nights. I relied on my mantra: FIND THE JOY. Some days I would literally repeat that to myself over and over.
And I did it. I found the joy. A smile. Precious toes. A baby squeal. Success with sweet potatoes.
So I charge you to be intentional and find the joy. Here’s what I found today:
I stand in awe of my nonbinary kids Every. Single. Day. They know who they are and are living their best lives, growing into super-cool young adults. [That’s Indigo and Mars pictured above]
I’m grateful for groups like ACLU Texas, Lambda Legal, Transgender Education Network of Texas, and Equality Texas who are ready and waiting with information and action to protect trans kids. Want to know how to help? Follow them and give them your money.
We have friends who care about us and about all trans kids. So many people reached out to see how we were doing with all this nonsense.
My community of other parents of transgender and gender non-conforming kids is precious. We look out for each other, we support each other, and we share information. I’d be lost without them.
What joy can you find today?
